The following day continue along steep ridgeline to Barranco Camp, then cross over undulating valleys (which help with acclimation) to eventually reach Barafu Camp. Awake at midnight for your attempt to summit the mountain. This particularly strenuous tour is appropriate for fit individuals only.

Climb Africa's tallest mountain - the mythical Mt Kilimanjaro - on a 6-day trek up its famed Machame or 'Whisky' route. Depart from Arusha and hike 4 to 8 hours daily, passing from cloud forest to moorland and across desert settings to reach the snow-capped peak. The extra days make acclimating easier, and nights are spent in spacious tents with meals prepared for you. Once summiting descend along the Mweka trail and return to Arusha for an overnight stay. Set out from Arusha for Marangu Gate to start your ascent, hiking through forest, grasslands and desert before reaching moorland. Another 5-6 hours of trekking brings you to Horombo Hut. Here, spend a day acclimating and simply enjoying the surrounding scenery, then continue on through barren alpine desert to Kimbo Hut and a very early morning climb to the summit.
