The city is located on the west of Herzegovina, 25 km south from Mortar near to the border with Croatia. It is known as a place where pilgrims come to worship the Virgin Mary. She is known here as the Madonna of Medjugorje. The city became a place of real worship of religious life. Mystical happenings began here in 1981 when a woman with a child in her hands appeared in front of a group of 6 people, she gestured them to approach her but they were scared. Stunned with these messages from Virgin Mary people from all over the world began to gather and pray. Many people accepted the mercy of God to their hearts in this sacred place and obtained the motivation to live a better and worthy life.
